Description

Please join us for a seminar presented by Eminent Speaker Dr. Gary Stormo, from the Department of Genetics, Washington University Medical School, titled "Determining Protein-DNA specificity: experimental and computational approaches."

ABSTRACT
Protein-DNA interaction specificity can be modeled by a variety of approaches, mostly commonly using position weight matrices (PWMs). There are several methods for determining the elements of the PWM, depending on the data available and the algorithms used. It is also clear that PWMs are an approximation, often a good one but sometimes not. This talk will cover methods for determining PWMs, especially from new experimental high-throughput methods, as well extensions to the model when better approximations are needed.
